Q&A with Amanda and Jake: Their Hypnobabies Birth

Jake and Amanda’s birth was the first hypno-birth I attended.  I admit that I was curious, as attending a birth is different from teaching, and even learning, about birth.  I was anxious to see the techniques “in action”.  I was so amazed with what I saw, and so pleased when Amanda announced “That was a great experience!” right after her birth, that I wanted to share it with everyone. Ellen and Brian’s Hypnobabies Birth

As a chiropractor, I wanted a medication-free and intervention-free birth. My colleagues endorsed another technique, but no one in Erie taught it; so I started looking at what was available here and found Hypnobabies.  After talking with Carol and reading on the Hypnobabies website, I presented it to my husband and asked if he would be comfortable and onboard with it. A Midwife’s Experience with Hypnobabies

Despite the fact that I have been attending births for fourteen years, my first experience with Hypnobabies happened only a year ago…and I have to admit that I wasn’t looking forward to it. Why not? Because I’d had previous experiences with “hypno”-classes and the subsequent births were often MORE challenging as the parents were not only under-prepared for what they were about to experience, they were set up for disappointments with unrealistic expectations of a “pain free” birth if they just did their hypnosis “right”. It was not unusual for my client to feel labor becoming active (generally 3-4 cm dilated) and panic, thinking she was not doing things ‘right’ because of how it felt, losing all confidence in her ability and desire to complete the job at hand…the exact opposite of what you want in labor.
