Resources to Help
Here is a list of resources for parents that have experienced a miscarriage or stillbirth:
- The Caring Place- Developed by Fred Rogers (Think Mr. Rogers) and Highmark BC/BS,
The Caring Place is a local resource for children who have lost a loved one, including
siblings.
- Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation- An organization of volunteer photographers
that will travel to the hospital or hospice location to gently photograph the family
with the baby, even in the case of a stillbirth. Services are provided at no charge.
- String of Pearls- String of Pearls was created to provide a nurturing and safe place
for families as they navigate the path following a fatal prenatal diagnosis that
will result in the death of their baby prior to, or shortly after birth. They provide
guidance, compassion and practical suggestions as plans to honor the life of pre-born
babies are crafted.
- Caring Bridge- Provides free websites to help support and connect families during
critical illness, treatment and recovery.
- Empty Arms- A support group for parents who have experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth,
or infant death. Contact Patty at 814-838-6346.
- Parents Reaching Other Parents in Sorrow (PROPS)- Supprt Group for the Loss of a
Child. Call 814-899-1058.
- Addie's Gift Foundation- Provides support to families who are going, or have gone
through, the death of a baby. Services include books available at no charge to grieving
families, labor support, and help locating a local grief support group.
- Many funeral homes are willing to donate their services in the event of a stillbirth
or infant death. Many pastors will know those local funeral homes that will provide
services for free or at a greatly reduced rate.
- No-cost doula services. Attending a stillbirth is not for everyone. However, for
those doulas that are able, many will offer services at no cost to the family. Often,
a doula can provide the clarity of mind to help families know and consider their
options.
