If you are uncertain if hypnosis for birth is for you, then please read this personal note from me to you:

I, like you, was uncertain if Hypnobabies was something I should look into.  I have very conservative beliefs, and did not want to do anything that went against my belief-system  While this may or not be your case, I found that I had a lot of assumptions about hypnosis that were based on the media’s portrayal of hypnosis.  As we all know, TV is not where we should go for accurate portrayals of anything.

Hypnosis is a state that we are all in many times a day.  Once I understood this, I became more comfortable with the idea of teaching girls how to use their minds to help their birthing time be more comfortable.  In my traditional childbirth class we talk about “distracting the mind” during birth.  With Hypnobabies, we do not distract our minds, rather we use them to our advantage.

Think about this:  When we drive, we often end up at our destination without really thinking about how to get there, or how to brake the car, or how to turn left.  We once had to pay close attention to these things, but over time, our subconscious mind learned how to do this for us.

In Hypnobabies, we use the subconscious mind to help us have good births.  That is all there is to it.  There is nothing weird or sinister.  You will not be “out of control” or “under the influence of another”.  Perhaps in the hands of an unethical person with evil motive this would be the case, but I am not a hypno-therapist with the ability to make that happen.  All I want for you is a good birth, and that is my only motive.  With take-home scripts and scripts on CD, you and your birth partner will work together, to create a positive birth.  I also love that this works just as well for single moms.

If you are uncertain if hypnosis is something you should be looking into because of Christian beliefs, may I direct you first to your clergy, and then to a link that is found on the Hypnobabies website that discusses Christianity and hypnosis.  I also suggest that you download the free track on Hypnosis for Birth and a FREE relaxation session here.

My reason for teaching this class stems from years of experience as a childbirth educator and as a doula.  While many moms taking a traditional childbirth class find that they are able to achieve a natural birth, there are many that do not.  The lure of the epidural or the narcotic injection is just too great.  Feeling that they have no other options, because nothing they learned is working any more, these moms choose to use pain meds.

It is my hope that by teaching this class that I can increase the success of moms who want a natural birth.  And that, is my pure motive.  I am teaching this class for YOU.

If you do decide that hypnosis is not for you, I invite you to take a look at my Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond class which take a more “traditional” approach to birth.

Warmly.

Carol
